THE LONG BEACH FIREFIGHTERS Golf Association is well into the 2019 season. Our club has been around since the 1970s, run by firemen long retired. In the 1980s it was Gary Bradford, Denny Neushutz, Jay Dudley and Tim Laughlin. From 1990-2015 it was guys like Chris Manning, Dan Fisher, Brad Liebeck, Rich Nieto, Matt Seybert and Andy Asari. I have been involved as a tournament director, handicap chairman and now president since 1997. Our goal has always been to get active and retired firefighters out monthly for golf and fun. Some of the benefits of joining our club include an SCGA established handicap, entrance into Match Play, and the top 20-point earners gain free entrance into the Tournament Series Championship (TSC). TSC is a free round of golf in November that includes $400 in skins money and closest to pin money. The club also sends players to SCGA events including the SCGA Four-Ball Net Championship, Affiliate Club Championship and the Tournament of Club Champions.
The LBFFGA runs monthly tournament with all the public courses in Long Beach and Lakewood on our schedule. The other course includes the Navy Course, Mile Square Park, Tijeras Creek, Talega in Orange County, Glen Eagle and Los Serranos in Riverside county. We have 90 members in the club but are lacking the most important piece of our club, the active LBFD member. We need young blood, so come out and see if you want to get involved. The average cost is around $75 -$85 which includes golf, cart, range balls, prize money and skins.
