Hello Life Changers!
When asked by friends, “What is the best thing about being a Firefighter?”, I respond with, “The kitchen table.” Inevitably, the statement is followed up by repeating the answer in the form of a question, and so I elaborate.
Looking back, the fire service seemed to revolve around the Kitchen Table and it didn’t matter which station you were working that day. It was being gathered around that Table, with the crew, that taught me the most about discovering what it meant to be firefighter. One never knew what hat they were going to wear at any given time when sitting around the Table. Maybe a travel guide, a plumber, or even an electrician (easy B.O.E.). Tomorrow, one might play a real estate agent or lawyer. Then there are times when issues become deep and maybe it’s a marriage in crisis or there’s been a death in the family that brings out our best to rally around the one who is hurting.
Brothers and Sisters, it’s the Kitchen Table that makes us a family in the fire service. It’s what brings us together day in and day out that allows us to develop and deepen our relationships with one another. A place where we bring our hurts and needs and where we share our love and advice to one another. It’s this cornerstone that is the best part of being a Firefighter.
As many of you are aware, Firefighters for Christ meets once a month at 8 am on alternating shifts at the Union Hall. We are here to encourage fellow Firefighters to live their lives for Christ. If this sounds like something you want to be a part of or just want to check it out, feel free to hit up our Leadership Team or better yet, come fellowship with us each month!
